FAQs

The Dry Guys use the HOST Dry Extraction System to get the carpet deep-down clean without saturating it with water and detergents. Approximately 85% of the soil in your carpet is dry and can easily be removed through vacuuming. The dry extraction method begins with a thorough vacuuming that removes this dry soil before attempting to clean the carpet. The remaining 15% of the soil is oily or greasy and therefore requires a detergent or solvent to remove it. Dry extraction controls the moisture by applying small amounts of water, mild detergent, and safe solvents to the carpeting via a soft, natural product that acts like a sponge. Counter-rotating soft bristle brushes gently work these sponges through the carpet yarns where they break down and absorb the oil and grease, holding them until they are vacuumed away. Now, here comes the dry part – your carpet is clean, dry, and ready to use immediately. Call the best today!

We base our charges on three different things:

  1. the size of the area that we are cleaning (measured in square feet),
  2. the style of carpeting (i.e., cut pile, berber, frieze, wool, etc),
  3. the condition of the carpeting (spots, traffic lanes, soil level, etc.)

We can give a “ball park” estimate over the phone if you know the size of the areas you would like to have cleaned. These are always subject to change once we are actually in your home. The best way to get an exact quote for cleaning is to take advantage of our FREE in-home estimates. The price you receive in your home is the price you will pay – there are no hidden charges, no surprises after the cleaning has been done. We are up front from the start, and you will know the exact cost to clean your carpet before a machine touches the floor.

It is important to note the connection between cost and value. The quality is often remembered long after the price is forgotten. If you are looking for the best cleaning and the most value at a reasonable price, here is what you will receive with every visit from “the dry guys”:

That’s the best part – you don’t! Because we never over saturate your carpet with moisture to begin with, there is no reason to wait hours – or even days – for it to dry. Your carpet will be dry and ready to use as soon as we’re done cleaning it!

On the contrary! It will actually stay cleaner LONGER than compared to having it cleaned with a wet method. Here’s why: again, because the carpet is never over saturated with moisture, shampoos, or chemicals, there is no sticky residue left behind to re-attract dirt.

No. There are a few reasons why a spot seems to “reappear” after cleaning. One is that it is never really removed at all. Often times, cleaning systems will force the spot into the back of the carpeting. Since you can’t see it on the surface any longer, you assume it is gone. However, as the carpet dries, the spot “wicks” back up the vertical surface of the carpet fibers. As it reaches the top surface again, the spot “reappears”.

Another reason relates to residue that is left behind following a wet cleaning. If a cleaner uses extra detergents or chemicals on a spot in order to remove it, and those detergents or chemicals leave a sticky residue behind, dirt, dust & soil are more likely to collect in the same area as the original spot. Consequently, it looks as if the spot has reappeared.

With the HOST System, neither of these conditions exist. There is no excess moisture to drive spots and spills into the backing of the carpet. Instead, they are absorbed into the cleaner sponges and removed through vacuuming. A trace amount of the sponges may remain at the base of the carpet following the cleaning; however, it is neither abrasive nor harmful. It will not re-attract dirt and will be removed with subsequent vacuumings.

We can absolutely treat pet accidents. We have specialized products, tools, & processes that are specifically for this purpose. The success rate of complete removal will be dependent on several factors, including the length of time between the accident and treatment, what your pet ate or drank before the accident, how large the spot is, how deep into the padding it has penetrated, and what (if anything)has already been done in attempt to remove it. (Sometimes the use of household products results in setting the stain permanently rather than removing it.)

Yes, we do – for no additional charge. Exceptions include electronics (televisions, stereos, computers, etc) and large heavy items such as entertainment centers, pianos, large hutches, etc.)

According to the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration (IICRC) you should have your carpets cleaned AT LEAST 1 TIME PER YEAR depending on the amount of traffic . The IICRC is a professional association that trains & monitors cleaning technicians throughout North America.

There’s no doubt that regular, professional cleanings benefit both you and your carpet. Removing unwanted contaminants from your carpet promotes a healthier indoor environment. Properly maintaining your carpet prolongs its useful life. We can help you determine how often you should clean your carpets during your cleaning visit. Here are a few tips.

  • Clean your carpet sooner rather than later. Soil buried in your carpet acts like an abrasive, accelerating the wear of face yarns, and soils are much harder to remove when they’ve been ground in over an extended period of time.
  • Vacuum regularly, especially in front of exterior doors where soils can accumulate.
  • Clean up spills when they happen.
  • Use products intended for use on carpets only. Try water or carbonated water first. If the spot remains, use a host Spot Removal Kit
  • Properly performed cleaning, even frequent cleaning, does not damage your carpet nor will it cause your carpet to soil more quickly.
  • ALWAYS consult a professional if you have questions about the care of your carpet.

Your dinner guest tips his glass of red wine on your carpet. Your toddler knocks her glass of juice onto the living room floor. The dog bumps the table and a whole glass of chocolate milk is now in the carpeting. What’s your first reaction?

If it’s to run for a store-bought product to spray onto the spill in hopes of removing it, STOP! Your first thought should be to absorb the spill before it has a chance to run into the backing of the carpet. We have Spot Kits that are very handy to have around the house for those unexpected emergencies! They include a container of HOST cleaner sponges, a bottle of Spot Remover, and a small hand brush. Also included is a booklet with instructions for removing different types of spots. If you don’t already have one of these kits, place a half-inch layer of paper towels or a white terry cloth towel over the spill with a weight on top. When the spill dries, it will absorb into the paper towel rather than into the carpet fiber.

It is helpful to know the difference between a spill, a spot, and a stain.

SPILL – a wet substance on the fiber surface.
SPOT – a spill that is allowed to sit and eventually dry.
STAIN – a substance that has permanently changed the color or caused damage to the carpet fibers.

A spill and a spot are similar in the sense that they can be removed when correct procedures are followed; however, stains CANNOT be removed.

There are several factors that affect the chances of successfully removing a spill or a spot:

  • The method you choose to treat it – As mentioned before, it is important to absorb a spill as quickly as possible. Over-the-counter “stain removers” often have the adverse effect of setting a stain rather than removing it. Avoid these to prevent damage to your carpet.
  • Time – the quicker the spot is treated, the better your chances are of removing it completely.

The best advice if you’re not sure how to treat a spill is to absorb it as best you can and then call “The Dry Guys”.
